Congratulations to Paul Rasch, new district 5 Council member

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

With four votes Paul Rasch has been selected to fill the seat vacated by Donald Sandford.

The City Council of Orange City used a process that included advertising the opening, interviewing candidates for the post and voting for candidates in several rounds of voting.  This is the first time the council has used a process to fill a vacancy.  Recent City Charter amendments and comments from the charter review commission recommended that an approach be developed.  The hope is that, as the charter review commission suggested, a procedure or policy will be adopted so that what seemed to work well this time will be a way forward for future vacancies.  Congratulations to the City Council for carrying out a good process with an open and encouraging atmosphere.
