According to the Sunday London times a 1999 study showed that birds sleep with one eye open and half their brain asleep. They alternate the eye and the side of the brain to be completely rested and protected by morning. Human beings lack this ability in protecting and resting themselves. So we have adapted in another way, we need each other to form a community and to participate in giving each other mutal rest and protection. So if this is our way of surviving, why are we less connected and less supportive of each other. Is it possible that we are losing our focus to survive?
Perhaps what we really are doing is forgetting that participating in the lives of others is what makes our lives rich. It is somehow ok to let someone else make the decisions and control the direction. But recent events show that we can come together and move in large numbers in the same direction. The direction of working togther to have a better life, a better city, a better country.
Our participation with each other in the problems that threaten us and tire us out is essential if we are to move forward. Since we don’t sleep with one eye open I’ll be blogging about things in Volusia County that threaten us and tire us out. I’m hoping we can all participate in finding solutions to that which threatens us and give each other some rest. Many hands make work light. Many hands make solutions possible.
