About Ken Goldberg
Greetings all and Hang in there! My name is Ken Goldberg and I am a 44 year old state of Florida Certified General Contractor located in DeLand, Florida and a partner in the general contracting and construction management firm, Chandler/Goldberg, LLC. I have lived in DeLand for last 12 years. I have worked in the past for a couple of medium to large homebuilders/developers, Masterpiece Homes, Inc (now Orleans Builders in Florida) and The St. Joe Company, Florida’s largest private land owner and whose development arm was formerly Arvida. I have nearly 1000 homes either that I built or managed over the last 10 years so I have seen it all from bad to excellent.
The industry has been good to me and allowed me and many, many, many people that I know to build a good quality of life here in central Florida. But, things have changed and many of the good people I have met and known in the building industry have fallen on hard times with unemployment or underemployment. Hence the name of this blog. It comes directly from that hopeful phrase that I have heard spoken to me and offered as an encouraging token to others much too often of late, “hang in there”.
This blog is written for and about this great industry and the people that work hard to build up our state and communities. Also, this blog is not just about how we engage in the operative aspects of building structures, but about how we all, with our, and I emphasize the word “our”, government, go about the more speculative building of lives and communities and our larger Florida community as well. With the inauguration of our 44th President, Barak Obama, we begin anew this construction with new ideas and vigor. Let’s get on with it. Hang in there, we will get through, it and succeed together.
Additionally, this blog will tail off into other things, such as our government behaving badly and local businesses being stupid. There will also be some restaurant criticism and reviews as such things often tell of the fortunes of a community.
