This past weekend we had an abundance of idiocy in Volusia County.
I had a hard time picking a DCOTD. So here are my two favs:
We have the chick who decided to change her course midway and runs into a deputy, and, we have the dude who refused to stop for the deputy — while obeying all traffic laws — and made a run for it when he parked.
Who do you think deserves the Dumb Criminal of the Day title?

Header: ACCIDENT Location:N. U.S. Highway 17/Fairport Business Name: ZONE:22(O1) Cox, Eunice, Collins B/F (64) 09-21-44 Cox was traveling North on U.S. Highway 17, signaled a right turn and began to make the right turn onto Fairport Avenue. Deputy Mott who was stopped at the stop sign on Fairport Avenue proceeded onto U.S. Highway 17. Cox decided to change her mind and continue straight on U.S. Highway 17 rather than turn onto Fairport Avenue. The front of Cox’s vehicle struck the front driver side of Deputy Mott’s patrol car. Both vehicles sustained minor damage and both were operational. There were no injuries. FHP responded and conducted the crash investigation. Sergeant Nardiello responded and completed the Auto Incident Report. Lt. Hughes-Watch Commander and Lt. Newman were both notified.

Ofc. Chaves with SDPD attempted to stop a vehicle that was operated by D-1 Jolley. Jolley refused to stop, although he obeyed all the traffic laws to include stop signs, speed, and traffic lights. He was followed into a neighborhood by Deputy Rego. Again he obeyed the speed limit and the one stop sign he encountered. Jolley then exited his vehicle on Balboa and attempted to run, but ran into a stockade fence. He was apprehended without further incident. Sgt. Amendolare responded to the scene and completed a Following Memo. Lt. Hughes was informed of the incident.
Making a run for it after parking surely qualifies as the dumber move. You’re not going to outrun the deputies for long. It is not just a big fat boy like me that is going to be caught; remember that there are loads of deputies, so if you avoid one it is only to be found by two others.
Besides: they know where you live, they know where you parked, they got your tag number. What are you going to do, move to Mexico some time in the next hour? Then, wait for the statute of limitations to run? No, you are caught.
Don’t waste your time fleeing. Come up with a good excuse or keep your mouth shut when they catch you, but running does nothing for you and has health consequences. Besides the possibility of lead poisoning from the deputy, running damages your knees, back, and heart. Those are important.
