While attention on school-attendance zones has been focused recently on West Volusia high schools, there are changes in store for younger students, too.
The Volusia County School Board will soon set the attendance zone for an elementary school slated to open next year.
Elementary School Z, which will be formally named later, is located at 729 Hazen Road, on the west side of DeLand.
School-district officials will conduct listening sessions to give parents an opportunity to comment on proposed zones for the new school.
The sessions are scheduled:
• at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, at George Marks Elementary School, 1000 N. Garfield Ave., DeLand;
• at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, at Starke Elementary School, 730 S. Parsons Ave., DeLand;
• at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, at Woodward Avenue Elementary School, 1201 S. Woodward Ave., DeLand;
and at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 19 at Freedom Elementary School, 1396 S. Blue Lake Ave., DeLand.
