The Complete “Rocky Horror Picture Show” Experience Comes to DeLand’s Athens Theatre on October 26th & 27th

On October 26th and 27th cult classic “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” returns to the Athens Theatre in downtown Deland after much “antici... pation.” For the first time in almost three decades we will invite local residents (over the age of 18) to once more join us and “Do The Time Warp Again”. The Absent Friends, a local-based
An adaptation of the 1970’s British classic, this film is replete with live actors, props, dancing, and audience participation. The film’s plot revolves around a newly engaged and admittedly naïve couple (Brad and Janet) who get stranded on the side of the road and seek refuge in the nearby castle of a strange yet interesting Dr. Frank-N-Furter. From there the story becomes increasingly more ridiculous, raunchy and above all fun.
The show sticks to tradition by having the ever popular “midnight showings” that made this show such a success. Preshow starts at 11:30pm with all the “normal” fun frivolity of welcomes, initiating in all the “Rocky Virgins,” patrons getting a chance to purchase bags filled with audience participation props, and an additional Halloween dance surprise. The audience is encouraged to come in costume, sing along with the songs, dance the dances, and utilize their approved audience participation props. (Any unapproved props will be confiscated at the door.)
Director Robert Baldwin describes the experience well. “Rocky is more than a show, it is an experience that invites the audience into a racy, taboo world untouched by sensitivity and political correctness. In the greatest of ways, nothing is sacred; we laugh and poke fun at everything and everyone (often times in ways that might make a sailor blush). That said, the show is all about shocking fun, no arsenal, no venom, just a true opportunity to laugh and let your freak flag fly!”
The Athens Theatre is located at 124 N. Florida Avenue, Deland. Parking is Free. Advance tickets are available for $10 or $13 with a bag of approved props and for $12 at the door. All Tickets are available online at www.AthensDeland.com, the Elusive Grape located at 133 N. Woodland Blvd in Downtown DeLand or by calling the Box Office at (386) 736-1500.
