My best friend, Jeff Allebach, is a politician. Jeff is a servant-minded citizen who has committed to using his intelligence and gifts to better our lives.
For those who have the wherewithal, guts, constitution and thick skin, the route of serving in public office is where the most difference can be made.
Jeff believes he can make a positive impact on the quality of our lives by being involved in "politics."
All of the candidates and incumbents are of the same mindset. They want to help society. They are doing this at a cost and sacrifice to their personal, business, and family lives.
Jeff's opponent, Pat Patterson, is a gentleman I have known for just three years fewer than I've known Jeff. I consider Pat to be a friend, albeit I'm not sure the sentiment goes the other way, after me helping Jeff with his campaign this year.
I have known Pat and his wife, Anne, since 1998, and always cherished my acquaintance with them. I even worked on Pat's campaign in that year.
Both Pat and Jeff are men who could be making much more money if they directed their energy, education and experience toward more-profitable goals. They are both highly educated: Jeff earned an MBA from the University of Miami.
The amazing part of this campaign is that both of these men's businesses are doing fine, even with all of our distractions being thrown at them!
Have you ever listened to yourself talk about our politician servants? My goodness! Those of us close to the campaigns witness remarks by the public that make it back to the candidates. I, as just a helper, can't believe these wonderful servants to society don't just buckle, but that thick skin is part of their strength.
We citizens need to give credibility to the work these folks do, and get out to the polls to vote! Do a little homework, and vote responsibly and intellectually, because it makes a difference.
Please don't let the politician's tireless efforts fall to the curb. It is the competition of these campaigns that keeps the highest quality possible in these public offices.
I'll be voting for Jeff Allebach in the District 1 County Council race. I hope you join me in voting.
