The DeLand Bulldogs (21-7) used a 21-16 fourth-quarter surge in the district championship game at Hagerty Feb. 9 to topple the Huskies, 59-54, and earn the right to host the regional quarterfinal game in The Doghouse at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, against the Jacksonville Mandarin Mustangs.
The ’Dogs and Huskies were tied, 38-38, going into the final eight minutes of play. Monolito Hamilton netted 20 points for the victors, with Jason Burnell and Larry Chavers adding 13 points and 10 points, respectively. J.P. Dean grabbed seven rebounds.
In one of the other regional quarterfinal matchups, it will be Hagerty on the road to face the Jacksonville Sandalwood Saints. Should DeLand and Hagerty both win, they will be squaring off against each other again in the regional semifinals at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19.
The regional finals will be played at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, with the winners heading to Lakeland for the Class 8A state tournament Feb. 26-March 2.
