Lohman Funeral Homes, Cemeteries & Cremation staff members, along with their dogs, friends and family members, participated in the 3rd Annual Mutt Strutt on the Beach trecently. Lohman's Loves Pets was one of more than 60 teams to participate in the animal and family-friendly 5K Walk/Run benefiting the Halifax Humane Society. The event raised almost $40,000, all of which will directly help homeless and abused animals in Volusia County.
"I was so proud that our associates were excited about being a part of this event!" said Nancy Lohman, regional director of Florida Funeral Operations. "They were so happy to help make a difference and they are indicative of the type of amazing employees we have in our company!"
"To watch everyone with their furry companions was heartwarming. " said Stephanie Ziehmn, who served as Lohman's Loves Pets team captain. She walked with her 6-year old pit bull, Sammy, and new Lohman funeral attendant, Elizabeth Latta, who brought along her boxer Botch. "We were all super excited to have been able to participate in and raise funds for the Halifax Humane Society."
Those sentiments were echoed by many teammates. "This was such a fun and inspiring event. I can't wait until next year," said Emily Bradford, who works with Stephanie at Baggett & Summers Funeral Home in downtown Daytona Beach.
Ellie Purcell, who works in the Daytona Memorial Park building, recruited her 5-year old golden husky lab, Logan, and two nieces, Kaylin Purcell and Jennifer Purcell-Boulton. Kaylin, who brought her 3-year old chocolate lab mix, and Ellie are both "pet parents" of adopted rescue dogs and were happy to support a cause so close to their own hearts.
"It was very rewarding. The most fun fundraiser I've ever participated in," Ellie said.
Comprised of four staffers, four dogs and six friends and family members, the Lohman's Loves Pets team beat their fundraising goal and look forward to participating in the event next year. Lohman staff members are committed to being active in the community, and participate in many fundraising events and educational programs.
Lohman is a leader in East Central Florida funeral, cremation and cemetery services and has earned a reputation for the caring and respect shown to the families they serve. Since the 2008 launch of Lohman Pet Cemetery & Cremation, they can take care of those four legged family members too. Lohman offers the only private, perpetual care pet cemetery and the only pet loss service in the Volusia/Flagler area that offers private cremation.
