Leighton B. Smith, MD, has been named Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for Florida Hospital DeLand and Florida Hospital Fish Memorial.
In this new role, Smith will work to continually strengthen the relationships between physicians, clinicians and non-clinicians.
Smith is a physician executive with more than 25 years of progressive senior leadership experience in a variety of complex and diverse healthcare settings. He comes to the West Volusia area from Naples, Fla., where he was the founder, owner and operator of Leighton Consulting, Inc., a physician management consulting firm, for 10 years. Additionally, he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of a Chicago-area hospital for eight years.
Smith earned a bachelor of arts in psychology and a doctorate in medicine from the University of Saskatchewan in Canada.
