On Thursday, April 18, the Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial Foundation will have an awards dinner at which to recognize 12 volunteers nominated for the fifth annual Johana Knox Award for Community Service Excellence.
One nominee will be named the 2013 award recipient.
The dinner will be 6-8 p.m. at the Victoria Gardens Clubhouse, 1001 Garden Club Drive in DeLand. Tickets cost $50 per person. Call 386-917-5423 for reservations, or email Deborah.McNabb@fhfm.org.
The Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial Foundation created the Johana Knox Award in 2010 to recognize outstanding individuals for their volunteer and philanthropic efforts. The foundation named the award in honor of one of its charter members and West Volusia’s best-known volunteer, Johana Knox.
Knox, a 35-year Orange City resident who passed away in December 2012, spent most of her life giving back to those less fortunate.
"Johana lived modestly, laughed contagiously and was always there to lend a hand," said Debi McNabb, Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial Foundation Director. "The Johana Knox Award recognizes outstanding community volunteers who, like Johana, saw a need within the community and didn't wait to ask who would help. This year's nominees are the first to raise their hands, the first to pitch in when needed, and the last to ever seek accolades for doing what comes naturally to them."
Of this year's 12 nominees, seven are Deltona residents; the others hail from Daytona Beach, DeBary, DeLand and Orange City.
