Spring Fling and Plant Sale
The public is invited to attend the annual Spring Fling and Plant Sale 8 a.m.-noon Saturday, April 27, on the grounds of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in DeLand.
In addition to the plant sale, there will be a bake sale, and the church’s youth group will be washing cars. Refreshments will be offered for purchase.
Proceeds from these events will be given to the youth group to help finance their summer-camp adventure in North Carolina at Lutheridge.

‘A Night of Hope for All People’
Dante G. Dixon Worldwide Ministries is bringing its outreach “Empowering the World for Christ: A Night of Hope for All People” to Mount Calvary Freewill Baptist Church in DeLand at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 26.
Speakers will include Pastor Dixon and Pastors Anthony and Dana Williams of New Life Ministries in DeLand.
The event will be taped live, and it is being asked that no small children attend.

80th anniversary of manifesto
Dr. Robert Tucker will again take the pulpit at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday, April 28, service at Mosaic Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Orange City.
His talk will mark the 80th anniversary of the publication of the Humanist Manifesto, first published in 1933. A children’s program is offered during the service.
In addition, the church will host Pet-A-Palooza 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, May 4. There will be a silly-dog show with prizes for fluffiest dog and craziest dog costume. The Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens will bring some interesting animals, and there will be vendors and displays by local vets, pet shelters and pet-supply stores, along with activities for children. Proceeds will benefit The Neighborhood Center of West Volusia Heart House.

Benefit concert and dance
First Congregational United Church of Christ of Orange City will host its annual Benefit Concert/Dance 7-9 p.m. Saturday, May 4, in the church’s fellowship hall.
The featured entertainment will be the Moonlighters Swing Band. The event will raise money for an all-girls orphanage and school, Grace House of Hope Orphanage in Haiti, which houses 33 young girls and has more than 200 children attending.
Tickets cost a minimum donation of $6 in advance or $7 at the door. Snacks and beverages will be available for purchase. Advanced tickets are available at the church office 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday-Friday, or by calling 386-775-2462.
The United Methodist Women of Orange City United Methodist Church will have a Rummage Sale 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, May 4.
Items for sale include household goods, clothing, books, glassware, and more. Lunches of hot dogs or sloppy Joes, with a salad, chips, beverage and dessert, will be available 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and cost $5 per person. Cake can also be purchased by the slice. All proceeds will go to church missions.

Soup and Salad Luncheon
First Presbyterian Church of DeBary invites the public to a special Soup and Salad Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, April 28, following the 10:30 a.m. worship service.
The luncheon will include a surprise presentation “Turn Your Radio On” by members of the church choir and congregation, directed by Music Director Sharon Hibbs.
Phillip Lucas will present “Neolithic Sites, the Meaning Behind the Megaliths and Modern Rituals” at the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday, April 28, at First Unitarian Universalist Church of West Volusia in DeLand.
Religious education for children of all ages is provided during the service.

‘The Pursuing Father’
Elder Dr. Joe Risse will be the guest minister for the 8:15 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. services Sunday, April 28, at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of DeLand.
His sermon topic will be “The Pursuing Father,” based on Luke 15:11-32. Communion will be served at both services.
Martha Manley, Ethel Bland and Mary Martin are requesting donations of baby onesies, hand towels, washcloths, toothpaste, bar soap and razors. The women put together layettes and health kits for those in need in Volusia County.
There will be a youth carwash 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 27, in the church parking lot. At 2 p.m., there will be a baby shower for Kim Porr Feldman in the fellowship hall.
