The Boys and Girls Club group came to City Hall to personally thank the DeLand City Commission for its partnership, and the new Boys and Girls Clubhouse.
CPO of Boys and Girls Clubs of Volusia/Flagler Joe Sulliivan told the commission that the Boys and Girls Clubs of Volusia/Flagler serves 1,500 children in eight clubs.
Spring Hill Boys and Girls Club Director Althea Chavers told the commission that when much is given, much is required and she tells the children that they may not have a lot of money in their pocket, but respect goes a long way. The teenagers then recited the Boys and Girls Club code to show their gratitude for the support of the city.
The Brighthouse Spring Hill Boys and Girls Club serves more than 200 children. "To God be the glory," Chavers said.
The club also announced its upcoming 16th annual Steak & Steak Dinner. The event is set for 6 p.m. Monday, June 3, at the Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort. Sullivan said the event is like a prom for the youth, and its also the largest annual fundraiser, raising more than half of the operating expenses for the clubs for the year. Corporate sponsorships are available. Tickets cost $125. For more information call 386-734-0555 or email Sullivan at firstname.lastname@example.org.
