Construction began May 20 after fire

Members of Lake Beresford Yacht Club of DeLand are looking forward to a reopening this year, after fire destroyed the clubhouse in August 2007.
With financing by Mainstreet Community Bank in DeLand, yacht club members broke ground for their new building in May, and began construction this month. Barring unusual delays, the $1 million project will be completed in October.
The clubhouse is at 1961 Hontoon Road, southwest of the city of DeLand. According to its website, the club has more than 80 members.
After the fire, members put up a temporary facility that offered a full-service kitchen, and a tiki bar, along with a screened swimming pool, boat ramp, covered slips for small boats, and three piers on Lake Beresford.
More information is available at the organization's website.
