At 5 p.m. today, Wednesday, July 10, the National Weather Service declared Tropical Storm Chantal dead.
Strong wind shear crippled the storm, reducing it to a tropical wave, which can still cause heavy rains and gusty rains in Cuba, Haiti and Jamaica.
Chantal currently poses no threat to Florida. Earlier forecasts showed the storm on a course that could bring it off the coast of Volusia County.
