Sheriff Ben Johnson handed out promotions to a pair of deputies during a ceremony July 2 at the Deputy Stephen Saboda Training Center in Daytona Beach.
Jessica Paugh, who has been with the Sheriff''s Office for nine years and before that rose to the rank of corporal with the Holly Hill police department, was promoted to lieutenant.
During her time with the Sheriff's Office, Paugh, 36, has been a patrol deputy, investigator and supervisor of the Major Case Unit.
"You worked hard for this," Sheriff Johnson told Paugh in front of a room filled with co-workers and well-wishers. "There are a lot of good years ahead for you."
Paugh also is a member of the Sheriff's Office's Hostage Negotiation Team and in her spare time is an adjunct professor at a local college. Her new assignment will be serving as one of the agency’s two rotating, night-time watch commanders.
Also promoted was 38-year-old Christopher Jones, who has been with the Sheriff’s Office since 2002.
“You are well-known as a high-energy individual,” Sheriff Johnson said. "It is my honor and privilege to award you your sergeant's badge."
