Three attorneys from West Volusia County and another from Daytona Beach have been recognized by their peers as being among Florida's Legal Elite, a prestigious list compiled every year by Florida Trend magazine.
Voted in by other attorneys in Florida were Lonnie Groot, Of Counsel with the Lake Mary firm Stenstrom, McIntosh, Colbert & Whigham and the city attorney for Lake Helen, Bunnell, Daytona Beach Shores, Sanford and Oviedo; Mark A. Watts, a land-use and environmental law attorney in Cobb Cole's DeLand office; and Joshua J. Pope, a real estate attorney also in Cobb Cole's DeLand office.
Groot and Watts both said the recognition will not change the way they conduct their practices.
"We were pleasantly surprised," Watts said, speaking of his and Pope's showings. "It's a nice thing to receive, but I'll keep doing what I do. I won't change anything."
"It's always nice to be recognized by one's colleagues throughout the state," Groot said.
Also recognized was Leonard R. Ross, a family law attorney in The Law Offices of Leonard R. Ross in Daytona Beach, who also received the recognition n 2012.
"I am very honored to be selected for this distinct position as a Legal Elite attorney for two consecutive years," Ross said in an emailed statement.
Florida Trend's tenth annual Legal Elite are voted on by attorneys throughout the state, an article on the magazine's website states. Invitations were sent to all in-state members of The Florida Bar. The 2013 list includes 1,228 attorneys from around the state, or less than two percent of the practicing lawyers in Florida.
"In this 10th Anniversary edition, we are pleased to report the legal profession in Florida remains vibrant with new practice areas represented in Legal Elite, increased statewide voting and a 43 percent increase in the number of firms with Legal Elite attorneys," Florida Trend editors said in the online article.
