2015 is target reopening date

It was a hot-as-heck Florida fall in 1991 when 3,500 men, women and children came together in DeLand and built a community legacy out of sweat and pennies.
That legacy, Freedom Playground at Bill Dreggors Park, is now past its prime. The aging wooden playground has become too expensive for the city to maintain and, within the next two years, it will be demolished and rebuilt.
City officials hope the replacement will be built with as much love as the original.
