A living lizard and a ceramic bunny were chatting, making quite a strange pair.
"You're a nice friend," said Izzy the lizard to the bunny. "You're quite handsome, and you listen when I tell you secrets. I tried to scamper to Key West last month, but it was such a long journey that I decided to stay in friendly DeLand. I hide from the sandhill cranes and other creatures that want to eat me, but I'm safe around you."
Izzy is only 8 inches long, but his slim, agile body, short legs and boundless energy enable him to move like a circus acrobat. His little adhesive toes can cling to nearly any surface. He can zip in and out of small spaces, and then bask in the sunshine. Spiders and insects for his meals are abundant. What a happy day!
One day, Izzy realized that he was real but the bunny was a statue, and Izzy was grateful that he could enjoy the scenery and sunny weather in beautiful Florida.
Said the bunny to the lizard,
"You're lucky 'cause you're free
To run and romp and play all day —
For I'm just a statue, you see!"
