The 16U Central Florida Impact travel baseball team, with boys from DeLand, Deltona, DeBary and the Daytona Beach area, routed the competition this past weekend in Apopka, putting up 35 runs, and allowing only five during the championship game Sept. 15. Solid defense, stellar pitching, and hot bats combined for the team during their second tournament together of the 2013 fall season.
The Impact took on the Wolverines Navy in a 10-0 win Sept. 14. Alex Lanning threw for two innings, and Zach Shinski shut the Wolverines down for an additional four, racking up six strikeouts, and allowing only one hit. Matthew Sadlon pounded a bases-clearing double in the sixth inning for his second double and four RBIs in the game. Tyler Pelehach and Kyle Moffett doubled, Dom D’Aliso singled twice, and Malik Mitchell and Steven Moffatt each added a hit. Sadlon stole two bags, and Pelehach and Mitchell added one also.
The Orlando Diamond Dawgs were the next victim for an 8-0 loss against Impact. Matthew Sadlon gave up two hits in three innings on the mound. Kyle Moffett closed the door for two more and added three strikeouts in the score book. Sadlon, Anthony Sprague and Austin Dearborn combined for a double play. Sprague doubled and singled for two RBIs, Tyler Russo added a hit and three RBIs, and Andrew Harrington added a single. Mitchell and Moffatt stole a base while on.
The win put CF Impact at the top of the board for Sunday morning to face the Orlando Diamond Dawgs again, after they battled to stay in the tourney, but lost again to Impact, 4-0. Anthony Sprague pitched the shutout, allowing two hits and striking out eight. Tyler Russo had two hits, while Sprague and Alex Lanning added one each. Sadlon added a stolen base to the mix.
The Impact faced the second-seeded Daytona Fuel in the championship, and ruled them, 13-5. Kyle Moffett led the way for the complete game on the mound, fanning four at the plate. Zach Shinski and Steven Moffatt doubled with two RBIs each. Moffatt was on fire, adding an additional two hits for five RBIs during his at-bats. Sprague had two hits, and Russo, Pelehach, Mitchell, Sadlon and D’Aliso added one each. Russo, Sadlon, Shinski and Moffett each stole a bag while on base.
