Officers from the DeLand Police Department found a man dead in a house on South Stone Street Thursday when they responded shortly after 11:30 p.m. to neighbors' calls about about a house alarm going off.
The man has been identified by police as 30-year-old Cornell Tulloch.
"The detective’s are still working to piece this together and develop leads on who may be responsible for this crime," DeLand Police Sgt. Chris Estes said. "No additional information is available."
The call came in at 11:36 p.m., DeLand Deputy Chief Randy Henderson reported. A neighbor near the home at 804 S. Stone St. called to report the alarm at that house going off, and the neighbor also reported four males running through his yard, police said.
When officers arrived, they summoned medical units after discovering Tulloch shot inside the house at 804 S. Stone St.
At 3:30 a.m., police reported they were searching the area, and that detectives were on the scene investigating the apparent crime and interviewing witnesses. Early Friday morning, police were still awaiting a search warrant for the home, Henderson said.
Records at the Volusia County Property Appraiser's office show the three-bedroom, two-bath, concrete-block home at 804 S. Stone St. is owned by Alvya Azama.
Updates will be reported as soon as police have additional information to release.
Anyone that may have information is urged to call Detective Tim Hughes at 386-626-7433 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-277-8477.
