On Oct. 16, Florida Hospital Fish Memorial was recognized by the American Cancer Society for raising nearly $3,000 for the Deltona Relay for Life event.
At the Deltona Community Center, the American Cancer Society presented Florida Hospital Fish Memorial with a plaque, recognizing the hospital’s efforts for the 2013 event. The hospital was one of the event’s highest contributors for the April 2013 event at Dewey O. Boster Sports Complex in Deltona, achieving the “Team of Excellence” award.
Hospital employees raised nearly $3,000 by hosting bake sales, basket raffles, as well as iPad and television raffles throughout the year, leading up to the event.
At the American Cancer Society Relay for Life events, communities come together to honor cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that has already taken too much. Relay for Life teams camp out overnight and take turns walking or running around a park track/path. The annual events take place overnight, symbolizing that cancer never sleeps.
“The funds raised truly make a difference in the fight against cancer,” said Dore Shepard, Florida Hospital Fish Memorial cancer services director. “The American Cancer Society puts the hard-earned donations to work, investing in groundbreaking research in every type of cancer and providing free information and services to cancer patients and their caregivers, We support this event every year, not just because of the admirable research efforts, but also because of the invaluable services the American Cancer Society provides at the local, community level.”
