Luis Toledo pleaded not guilty to murder when he appeared before Judge Margaret Hudson for arraignment at the Volusia County Courthouse in DeLand Nov. 21.
Volusia County Sheriff's investigators charged Luis Toledo with second-degree murder in the death of his wife, Yessina Suarez, in Deltona last month. Investigators said Toledo admitted to killing Suarez with a martial-arts chop to her throat after she talked of divorce.
Investigators said they consider Toledo a person of interest in the death of the couple's two children, 8-year-old Michael Otto and 9-year-old Thalia Otto, who are missing and presumed dead. The Sheriff's Office reported that Toledo said someone else killed the children.
A search for the bodies of Suarez and the children has been going on since Oct. 23. Suarez's family brought in volunteers for the search, and the Sheriff's Office brought in Texas Equusearch volunteers, to no avail so far.
