A Volusia County deputy arrested in October and charged with driving under the influence and child neglect has been fired.
“Following an internal investigation that resulted in the sustaining of several departmental policy violations, Sheriff Ben Johnson has fired Stephanie LeClerc,” Sheriff’s spokesman Gary Davidson said Nov. 21. Davidson said LeClerc was notified that day of her dismissal.
LeClerc was arrested Oct. 19 after witnesses reported she was operating her patrol car erratically near New Smyrna Beach. She was off-duty at the time, and was placed on administrative leave with pay after her arrest, Davidson said.
The child-neglect charge resulted from LeClerc having a 7-year-old girl in the car with her at the time of the alleged erratic driving.
Before her arrest, LeClerc, 37, had been working for the Sheriff’s Office in Court Services at the Volusia County Courthouse Annex in Daytona Beach. She had worked for Sheriff’s Office since 1999.
Her criminal charges are still pending. A pre-trial hearing scheduled is scheduled at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, the State Attorney’s Office said.
