Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) officials are investigating a suspected bear incident that left a Longwood woman injured Monday evening, Dec. 2.
Preliminary information indicates that Susan Chalfant, 54, was injured while walking her dog. She was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center.
FWC officers are patrolling the neighborhood where the incident occurred and have spoken with area residents about preventative measures and what they can do if a bear is spotted.
An FWC bear biologist has set up a trap in the yard where the bear was last seen. The trap will be monitored throughout the day.
The investigation is ongoing.
