Competing for the third time this year, the local DeLand powerlifting team decided to compete in the ninth USAPL Florida Veterans State Championships, honoring past and present veterans. The team was hitting on all cylinders, as all four lifters took home gold in their respective weight classes.
Team manager Bill Bradford Jr. reported that this meet brought the best out in all the lifters, as their totals continued to improve steadily.
Once again, "Mighty Mite" Timmy Gowan Jr. totaled nearly nine times his body weight of 137 pounds, and completely dominated his 16-17 age group.
Keeping it in the family, Tim Gowan Sr. moved up to the 220 division, 45-49 age group, with personal records in all three lifts.
Chris Fowler competed in the 33-39 age group, 308-pound division, and also lifted his personal best in all three lifts.
Rounding out the five gold medals was Bill Bradford Jr., also competing in the 308-pound division and moving into the 55-59 age group. His bench attempt established a new state record in the meet.
A big thanks to all of the team’s sponsors: Berryville Yogurt, Belly Busters, DeLand Motor Sports, and The Trophy Factory.
