Sometimes Santa's sleigh has flashing blue lights.
On Dec. 23, members of the DeLand Police Department and the DeLand Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association were busy little elves, delivering holiday cheer to more than a dozen DeLand children.
Two programs culminated in one joyous result: bicycles for kids who need them.
One program was spearheaded by the DeLand Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, in partnership with the Police Department.
The Alumni Association comprises graduates of the DeLand Citizens Police Academy, a program of classes designed to teach residents about Police Department operations.
Children and their families were invited to the Police Department, where the children got to assist the officers with the final fine-tuning of the bikes that had been set aside for them.
Then, the children got a tour of the Police Station, and got to eat pizza with their new police-officer friends.
