Reading The Beacon’s recent story about the movie Walt Before Mickey being filmed in West Volusia stirred up some childhood memories for Joan Richardson Aldous of DeLand.
Aldous remembers seeing the real Walt Disney when he visited his aunt, Jessie Perkins, who lived in DeLand.
The daughter of Tom and Nell Richardson, Aldous grew up at 215 W. Wisconsin Ave. During the 1940s, when Joan was in grammar school, she saw Disney in DeLand.
Next door to the Richardsons lived Irene Campbell, who was an elementary-school teacher and a cousin to Walt Disney.
