The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and contractor Quinn Construction Inc. are beginning repairs to the Whitehair Bridge over the St. Johns River near DeLand. Traffic on State Road (SR) 44 over the bridge will be affected, as two lanes will be reduced to one.
Motorists should be on the lookout for new traffic patterns and automated signals allowing for single lane travel over the bridge. (Signals will run 24 hours regulating traffic day and night.)
Work is scheduled for 160 days starting Monday Jan. 6, and is estimated to complete in early summer 2014. The contract amount is nearly $1.1 million.
Up-to-date information about road blockages and/or detours will be posted to the Central Florida FDOT web site at www.cflroads.com.
Weather conditions and other unforeseen circumstances could alter work schedules.
The Florida Department of Transportation strives for safe construction zones. Please stay alert for working personnel and equipment.
All vehicle occupants should buckle up. Safety belts save lives.
