Hundreds of prints show sporting events, athletes in DeLand, Pierson, Orange City

The family of Roger Gilmore has given custody of his Beacon-era photographs to the newspaper, and The Beacon wants to share them with the community.
The collection is a treasure of prints made of photographs Roger took at sporting events covering nearly 20 years in West Volusia.
The prints feature hundreds, possibly thousands, of shots of athletic events and young athletes, and they were turned over to The Beacon by Roger’s family after his death in October.
The Beacon — which has copies of most of the photos in its digital archive — wants to share the prints with the community.
Anyone who has an interest in the photos is invited to stop by the newspaper office, 110 W. New York Ave. in Downtown DeLand, to look at the collection. Office hours are generally 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and other hours by appointment.
