If the good Lord is willin’ and the creek don’t rise, the Ladies Auxiliary to DeBary Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8093 will be hostin’ a Boot Scootin’ Hootin’ and Haulerin’ Hillbilly Hoedown Saturday, Jan. 18.
The hoedown is intended to raise funds for programs that help veterans and their families through the VFW. The public is welcome, and a $5-per-person donation will be asked at the door.
Organizers hope those attending will also bring dishes of food to share.
The event begins at 7 p.m. At 8 p.m., the three-piece band Traces of Gold will begin to play.
There will be a square-dancing demonstration, line dancing, a shotgun wedding ,and a hillbilly Christmas tree. A jail will also be set up. Attendees will be able to pay to have another attendee arrested; the jailed party will have to get somebody to pay to bail him or her out.
Prizes will be awarded for the best hillbilly costume, and raffles for “redneck baskets” will be conducted.
“This is going to be a hoot!” VFW Ladies Auxiliary member Jeanne Laurine said. “Y’all come and see us, ya hear!”
The VFW is located at 351 S. Charles Richard Beall Blvd. in DeBary. Organizers of the Hillbilly Hoedown want to remind everyone that the VFW post is a smoke-free facility as of Jan. 1.
