DeLand High School’s Cherterickia Davis placed fourth in the state in the 199 division in the FHSAA State Girls Weightlifting Championships in Kissimmee this past weekend. This allowed the Lady Bulldogs to tie for 24th place in the meet, which was put on by neighboring Spruce Creek, whose team scored 28 points compared to second-place Navarre’s 17.
Davis had a total of 350 pounds in her two lifts at state, 190 in the bench press and 160 in the clean and jerk. This actually tied her for fourth place with Melinda Vitale of Charlotte, but ties are broken by the one who weighs the least getting the upper position.
First place went to Angelica Greene of Fleming Island with a 395 total, second went to Angelica Figueroa of Timber Creek at 380, and third was claimed by Taelor Smith of Navarre at 365.
