Those kilted firefighters will be at it again on St. Patrick's Day, Monday, March 17. Members of DeLand Professional Firefighters Local 4347 will be waiting on customers 6 p.m. to closing at Abbey in Downtown DeLand.
The firefighters want good tips, which they will donate to charity.
"The firefighters will be our celebrity waiters," Abbey proprietor Steve Evans said.
DeLand firefighters are famous for their traditional kilts, and happy to don them again for St. Patrick's Day.
Irish will be the theme of the evening, with Irish libations, including Guinness, on tap at special prices. Free gifts will be dispensed.
The firefighters took over Abbey in December for the first time.
"It worked out really well," firefighter-organizer Justin Desy said. "We collected a little over $700 — more than we expected."
That money was used to help sponsor the Healthy Groovin’ 5K at Citrus Grove Elementary School last month, to encourage family togetherness and fitness.
Money raised on St. Patrick's Day will go into the firefighters’ charity fund so they can donate to charities as needs arise.
Desy said the firefighters are grateful to Evans and Abbey for letting them take over for a night.
Abbey is at 117 N. Woodland Blvd. in DeLand. For more information, call 386-734-4545.
