"Dust off those old boots and join us" reads the invitation from First Presbyterian Church of DeLand to a square-dance festival and hoedown.
The event 6:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday, April 5, in the church fellowship hall at 724 N. Woodland Blvd., will offer square- and line dancing, a photo op with "Dastardly" Don Tutt, church photographer (the word is, the photo op will involved live fowl), and dancing. Mission-team member Ron Allison is honing his calling skills for the dance.
Admission costs $10 for an adult, $5 for a child age 12 or younger who is accompanied by an adult, $25 for a family or $75 for a table. The proceeds go to a good cause: the church’s mission trip to Nicaragua and Costa Rica, where mission-team members have delivered vital goods and supplies, built and repaired homes and facilities, planted trees, performed agricultural projects, and and conducted youth Bible studies.
A silent auction during the hoedown will provide more mission funds. Silent-auction items will include weekend getaways at the beach or the mountains, along with other items donated by local merchants, and gift certificates to local restaurants. Freshly baked cakes will be auctioned, too.
Hoedown snacks will include snow cones, hot dogs, root beer and more.
Tickets are available in advance or at the door. For more information, call the church at 386-734-6212.
