UPDATED 4 P.M. THURSDAY, APRIL 3 — During the Volusia County Council meeting this afternoon, Council Member Pat Northey read aloud an email received from County Chair Jason Davis. Davis said in the email his medical problem turned out not to be heart-related, and he was being released from the hospital today.
PREVIOUSLY REPORTED — County Chair Jason Davis will be listening to the Volusia County Council meeting this morning, Thursday, April 3, from his hospital bed in Halifax Health Medical Center, instead of leading the meeting and making the annual state of the county address.
Davis was hospitalized Wednesday, April 2, with cardiac issues. He went to the hospital just to be on the safe side, he said.
“They’re going to be running some tests,” Davis said this morning.
He won’t entirely miss today's County Council meeting — he will be listening online, Davis said.
When The Beacon spoke spoke with him around 8 a.m., the energy level in Davis’ voice was down only slightly, and he spoke with good humor.
Davis said he had gotten many calls of concern and support, for which he’s grateful. Davis doesn’t plan to be down for long, he said.
The State of the County address will likely be made at the next County Council meeting, on Thursday, April 17.
Vice Chair Pat Patterson is expected to chair today's meeting of the County Council. The agenda includes a vote on a controversial ordinance to regulate fertilizer use.
