posted Apr 25, 2014 - 1:06:26pm
Lake Helen’s First Gardens Tour, presented by the Lake Helen Garden Club, will be11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, April 26. Pick up a tour map at Asa Gray Park, corner of Main Street and Euclid Avenue.
The tour is free and self-paced. There will be a light lunch available for purchase in the park.
This event celebrates Earth Day and spring in the unique and historic town of Lake Helen. There will be six gardens on the tour.
“The are several different styles of gardens on the tour,” said Daisy Raisler, president of the Garden Club. The offerings include edible, hydroponic, vegetable, organic, flower and country-style gardens.
There also will be a plant sale and children’s activities in the park. Tour visitors are encouraged to walk through the gardens and trails in Asa Gray Park. The park has been owned and maintained by the Garden Club for decades, and it has been the site of many weddings.
The park was named for Asa Gray (1810-1888), who is considered the foremost botanist of the 19th century. Gray was a contemporary of Charles Darwin.
For tour information, call Raisler at 407-520-0541 or visit the Facebook page for Asa Gray Park-Lake Helen Garden Club.
