Controlled burns put smoke in the air

PALATKA -- The St. Johns River Water Management District is conducting a 97-acre prescribed fire today at the Heart Island Conservation Area in Volusia County, south of State Road 40 and west of Lake Wynona Road. The purpose of the burn is ecosystem restoration.
Also, the St. Johns River Water Management District is conducting a 144-acre prescribed fire today at the Gourd Island Conservation Area in St. Johns County. The purpose of the burn is ecosystem restoration.
