DeBary Mayor Bob Garcia, who's a Democrat, resigned his post effective July 2 to run against Republican David Santiago for the District 27 seat in the Florida House of Representatives.
That's starting a case of musical seats in DeBary.
With Garcia out of his seat, Vice Mayor Chris Carson will be installed as mayor during the Wednesday, July 2, meeting, leaving Carson's seat open and needing to be filled through the end of the year by City Council appointment.
Carson will return to his post of vice mayor when a new mayor is sworn in in January, after the elections. The interim person appointed to fill his seat through the end of the year will be out of a job in January.
To be considered for the temporary post, applicants must complete a volunteer application and return it to DeBary City Clerk Stacy Tebo by noon Friday, June 27. The application can be downloaded online at www.debary.org/Pages/DeBaryFL_EmerNews.
The City Council will discuss the appointment during the 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, meeting at City Hall, at 16 Colomba Road.
