Registration for a fall youth soccer league has begun at the DeLand Parks and Recreation Department. Boys and girls ages 4-12 (as of Jan. 1, 2018) who reside in or around the Greater DeLand area are eligible to participate. The deadline to register is Saturday, Sept. 8.
The youth soccer league is divided into three groups: Rookies, ages 4-6; Juniors, ages 7-9; and Seniors, ages 10-12.
Practices and games will be on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Saturday, Oct. 6, will be different — it will be Picture Day, and there will be games.
Practices and games will take place at the Sperling Sports Complex, 1500 Matt Fair Blvd. in east DeLand, off Marsh Road.
The cost is as follows: $50 per player, which includes a uniform of a shirt and shorts.
Those playing in the Rookie League will have four to five practices and five to six games. Players will get an award and a soccer ball; Junior-leaguers and those in the Senior League will have five to seven practices and seven to nine games. League champion and runner-up awards will be handed out.
Parents can register their children at the DeLand Parks and Rec. Department at 230 N. Stone St. from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, with cash, checks or credit cards. Registration on deadline day, Sept. 8, will be 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Sperling Sports Complex using cash or checks only.
