The 2019 officers and members of the board are now in charge of the DeLand Area Chamber of Commerce & Orange City Alliance.
Sworn into office at an installation reception Jan. 14 at Stetson University were the 2019 Executive Board, consisting of 2019 President Amanda Agnew of Amanda Agnew – State Farm Agent; Vice President Lalita Kapuscinski of AdventHealth; Treasurer Mark Russell of Tinker Graphics & Marketing; Secretary Amy Gipson of Stetson University; and Past President Joe Hearn of Joe Hearn Events.
The rest of the 2019 board is composed of Sandy Barker from Mainstreet Community Bank; Rob Doan from Cobb Cole; Suzanne Forbes from James Moore & Co.; Elizabeth Godwin from Duke Energy; Libby Molesky from Complete Parachute Solutions; Todd Phillips from The Daytona Beach News-Journal; Josh Poertner from Express Printing; Natali Reyes from Paul, Elkind, Branz & Kelton; Kellee Smith from Prestige Property Specialists; and Keri Wagner from DaVita Labs.
The new year also includes a number of changes that should bring the organization well into the 21st century. The most visible change is a new logo, which includes a positioning statement — West Volusia Relationships@Work — across the bottom. The logo downplays the city names to emphasize the fact that the Chamber of Commerce represents all the communities of West Volusia, united by the proximity of the St. Johns River, said Membership and Marketing Director Daniel Lee in an interview with The Beacon the week before the installation reception.
Also new this year are programs and incentives to “help Chamber members prosper.”
A weekly networking event called Office Octane will be held every Monday at 7:30 a.m. at the Courtyard by Marriott DeLand Historic Downtown, starting Jan. 21. At the event, members will enjoy free coffee, varied breakfast options, educational and motivational speakers, business networking, plus a whole new format designed for businesses wishing to build, grow and nurture important relationships, according to Lee.
Volusia Vibe is the new name for the monthly networking meetings formerly called Business After Hours. The event will be held the second Tuesday of every month at a different location every month.
There also will be numerous special events held throughout the year.
The Chamber is also beefing up its online and smartphone presence.
Nearly all DeLand Area Chamber of Commerce members can engage in Chamber website marketing and advertising for their business using Chambermaster — a unique online interface with the Chamber’s official website, www.delandchamber.org.
“It allows members to log in to submit events, which are reviewed by Chamber staff and then posted on the website,” Lee said. “We need to teach our members about this tool.”
In conjunction with Chambermaster, Member+ Mobile App is a new Chamber app that connects the database power of a member’s unique Chambermaster information with nearly every smartphone held by other Chamber members.
“This puts the power of the Chamber of Commerce in mobile phones,” Lee said.
Member+ is free to download, Lee said, and can be used to post job openings, join “Community Forums” and utilize Chamber resources anywhere at any time.
