A shooting near the Chisholm Community Center in DeLand left one man dead Thursday night, according to DeLand police.

DeLand city spokesman Chris Graham said officers responded about 6:15 p.m. Thursday to 314 W. Euclid Ave., where they found Terrence Gibson, 59, had been shot. Gibson died at the scene.

Witnesses at the scene told officers a masked gunman dressed in black arrived on foot at the vacant lot, where four to five people had been sitting around a campfire, and fired several shots before fleeing, DeLand Police Chief Jason Umberger said at a press briefing Thursday evening.

Umberger said canines lost the scent about a block away, leading officers to believe that the gunmen left in a waiting vehicle.

A search for the suspect came up empty.

Detectives are now investigating the case and attempting to gather information.
