After their recent performances at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts in Orlando, Flamenco del Sol’s latest production of the opera Carmen will be performed at the Athens Theatre in DeLand for one day only, Sunday, March 24.

Flamenco del Sol founder Tammy Weber de Millar invites you to experience this extraordinary production showcasing the iconic music of Georges Bizet layered over Prosper Mérimée’s quintessentially Spanish storyline of love, lust and tragedy told through a rich blend of classical operatic and flamenco music.

A cast of more than 30 artists will transport the audience back to 19th-century Seville, with percussive footwork, snapping fans and thundering castanets, all clothed in sumptuous period costuming. Follow Carmen and Don Jose through this timeless and tragic love story.

Carmen is the most recent in Flamenco del Sol’s charitable biennials, where all proceeds are donated to Ronald McDonald House with love and gratitude. They are proud to have raised more than $20,000 for Ronald McDonald House charities with their past few productions.

The Athens is excited to bring Carmen to DeLand at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 24.

The historic theater is at 124 N. Florida Ave. in Downtown DeLand.

Tickets cost $25 for preferred reserved seating (first five rows center orchestra and two rows center balcony); $22 for general reserved seating; and $20 for senior citizens. A $3-per-ticket processing charge and 6.5-percent sales tax will be added to each purchase.

To purchase your tickets in advance or find out more information, visit the Athens Theatre website at www.AthensDeLand.com, or call the box office at 386-736-1500. Box-office hours are 1-5 p.m. Wednesdays-Saturdays, and one-and-a-half hours before live performances.
