In a low, one-story building tucked behind an auction shop and a small strip center in Orange City is the newest venue where locals can unwind after a long week of work. Nate’s Wine Down Drink Up Lounge is owned by Nate June and his family: sister Marlana June, wife Christina June, and parents Edna and Elijah June.

Nate and Marlana spoke with The West Volusia Beacon about the new enterprise.

“I was in sales of wines and liquors for about five years, learning about the industry, and finally decided to open my own place,” said Nate. “This has always been a dream of mine.”

“The family decided we wanted to leave something for everybody, so we all came together to make this happen,” Marlana added.

Nate and Marlana June, now 32 and 30 years old, respectively, grew up in Deltona and graduated from Deltona High School. But when the idea for the lounge came up, it seemed Orange City was a perfect location because it’s so centrally located on the west side of the county in the midst of DeLand, Orange City, DeBary and Deltona.

The lounge consists of the main room, with a small stage in one corner facing 20 tables, each with three chairs. There’s also a bar where the wines and draft or bottled beers are dispensed.

Nate’s Wine Down carries a modest — for now — menu of wines and beers, but Nate says that will probably change once customers’ tastes are better known.

“We’re trying to find out what everyone likes,” he said. “We’re surveying what kinds of wines people want.”

As the business grows, Nate and Marlana plan to add events — perhaps wine tastings to help people learn about the various kinds of fermented grapes — and possibly serve foods of some kind.

The lounge also will be a venue for local musicians. The lounge will have live entertainment on weekend nights, usually Saturdays. The focus will be on booking artists performing jazz, folk and R&B music, the siblings said.

“We’re always looking for local talent so we can give them chances to get their music out there and show off their talent,” Nate said. “We want people to wind down after a hard day at work.”

“We want it to be a relaxing environment,” Marlana said.

Relaxing is the theme of a quieter room off the main room. The adjoin- ing space has several seating areas where two to six customers can have a more intimate discussion without the music being as loud.

Nate’s Wine Down Drink Up Lounge is at 1143 S. Volusia Ave. in Orange City, across from a Budget/ Avis car-rental agency and Masters Auto Centers LLC. The driveway runs between Seminole Estate Auction and the South Volusia Square shopping plaza.

The lounge opens at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and closes at 1 a.m. Thursday night and 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights. Call 386-218-0074 for more information.
