A well-known Halifax-area barbecue place will open a second restaurant at Interstate 4 and Saxon Boulevard in Orange City.
Colt’s Pig Stand, located next to Bruce Rossmeyer’s Harley-Davidson dealership off Interstate 95 and U.S. 1 in Ormond Beach, is preparing to cater to barbecue connoisseurs in West Volusia.
How soon will it open?
“I’m looking by October. We should be close to it,” Eric Holm, owner of Colt’s Pig Stand, said. “We’re really looking forward to coming to Orange City.”
Holm is renovating the former Bob Evans restaurant at 1340 Saxon Blvd. at a cost of $635,000, according to Orange City Development Services Director Becky Mendez. The contractor is PPD Construction Services of Winter Park.
Holm also is planning another Colt’s Pig Stand in New Smyrna Beach, he said.
In addition to offering barbecue pork, beef and chicken, the Colt’s Pig Stand in Orange City will offer “daily specials, comfort food like roast beef and fried chicken,” Holm said.
“We cook it fresh every day,” he said.
Sandwiches at the original location range from $8.49 to $9.49, served with a choice of one side. Dinners cost $13.99 for a two-meat combo plate or $19.99 for a three-meat combo plate; nine different smoked-meat plates range from $11.99 to $16.99. All plates are served with a choice of two side items and garlic Texas toast or sweet cornbread.
Sides include Grammy’s collard greens, BBQ beans, mac ’n’ cheese, Brunswick stew, onion rings, corn on the cob, french fries, potato salad, Colt’s slaw, green beans, and fried okra, corn nuggets, fried pickles or sweet tater tots.
There are also a variety of BBQ salads, jumbo chicken tenders, jumbo wings and a kids menu.
Holm noted the opening of the Orange City restaurant will result in the creation of about 80 new jobs, including about 40 full-time and about 40 part-time positions.
Colt’s Pig Stand in Ormond Beach opened in 1998.
Holm said Colt is his grandson’s name.
“Eric’s Pig Stand just didn’t sound right, but Colt did,” he said.
