DeLand’s Golden Hawks Radio Control Club will host a national scale-model event Oct. 17-20 at the club’s flying field next to DeLand Municipal Airport. West Volusia fans of scale-model aviation are invited.
The National Association of Scale Aeromodelers (whose acronym is a play on the bigger NASA) stages an annual event to promote three types of scale modeling: free flight, control line, and radio control of scale models.
This event has never before come to DeLand — or even to Florida — and should attract some of the best scale-model pilots from across the country, event manager Mike Setteducati of DeLand said.
All are welcome to come watch. A $5-per-car donation for admission will support the Golden Hawks’ youth flying scholarship fund. At the event, food will be available for purchase.
The club’s field is at the Sperling Sports Complex on Marsh Road, east of the airport and north of International Speedway Boulevard.
