A Deltona man arrested last year for burning a 3-year-old girl by allegedly putting her in an oven has been arrested again on a charge of pouring boiling water on a 3-year-old boy, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

Terry May, 47, was taken into custody Friday, Oct. 11, after a judge issued a warrant last week on a charge of child abuse causing great bodily harm, according to Sheriff’s Office spokesman Andrew Gant.

“A deputy first responded to this latest child abuse call on Sept. 27, after the victim’s day care instructors noticed a burn mark on the child’s back,” Gant said. “The investigation revealed May poured boiling water onto the child after the child accidentally urinated on the floor.”

In January 2018, May was arrested after a 3-year-old girl reported that he frequently hit her with a belt.

The girl had several noticeable injuries, according to the Sheriff’s Office, including “extensive abrasion on her ear, several contusions and swelling on the top of her head and forehead, a 6-inch scar on her back,” among others.

The victim told a Department of Children and Families investigator that May had put her in an oven. Ultimately, the case was not prosecuted.

May’s bond on his current charge is $250,000.
