The Deltona Art Club recognizes Doris Baker as the Featured Artist of the Month for October. Her artwork titled Peace on Earth is an acrylic painting with an autumn theme, and hangs this month in the foyer of Deltona City Hall.

Baker was born in New Jersey, and she and her husband moved to Deltona six-and-a-half years ago. The couple have one daughter, a son-in-law and three granddaughters.

Doris was accepted into the art-major course of study for her sophomore, junior and senior years of high school. Her plan was to go to college for art or cosmetology. Her father preferred that she study something in the medical field, so she became a certified dental laboratory technician.

Many years later, Doris became a cosmetologist, and today she is happily in an art club, loving all aspects of the art world. She realizes how calm it makes her feel, and she enjoys spending time with all the art club members.

The Deltona Art Club, established in 1968, is one of the oldest continuously running clubs in Central Florida. Everyone is welcome to join.

The club meets at 9:45 a.m. on the second Wednesday of each month, September-May, at the Deltona Regional Library, 2150 Eustace Ave. There is also weekly workshop time 12:30-3 p.m. every Thursday, year-round, at The Center at Deltona, 1640 Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd., off Howland Boulevard.
