Want to see some strange and exotic light planes, gyrocopters and helicopters up close, and talk to their inventors and builders? If so, you will want to go to the fourth annual DeLand Sport Aviation Showcase Thursday, Nov. 14, through Saturday, Nov. 16, on the DeLand Municipal Airport.

Growing every year, this year’s showcase is expected to draw between 7,000 and 8,000 visitors interested in light sport planes, ultralight aircraft and both helicopters and gyrocopters, plus all the kit planes, engines, instruments and accessories it takes to fly them. More than 100 exhibitors will be on hand from all over the eastern United States and even from overseas.

Showcase coordinator Jana Filip confirmed that more than 7,000 advance tickets have already been sold, way up from the 5,000 or so total visitors at last year’s showcase.

Best of all, if you are a student with a current student ID card, your all-day pass for Saturday the 16th is totally free! Kids age 10 and under are also admitted free all three days.

At the gate, tickets for adults cost $20 per day, or $40 for a three-day pass. Tickets for youths ages 11-17 cost $15 a day, or $20 for a three-day pass.

Advance tickets are all 10-percent off if you buy them online at www.sportaviationshowcase.com/event-info/admissions/index. Advance discounted ticket sales are only available online, and sales end Monday, Nov. 11.

The Sport Aviation Showcase gate is off Industrial Drive, on the west side of DeLand Municipal Airport, with signs pointing the way. Gates open at 8 a.m., and the showcase runs until 5 p.m. each day.
