The city’s cold weather shelter will open this evening, Tuesday, Jan. 21

The shelter is located at the Chisholm Community Center, 520 South Clara Avenue, DeLand.

A total of 43 people stayed at the shelter last night.

There is also a special request for donations of items. The shelter is in need of warm blankets, pillow cases, hats, gloves, warm, thick socks, toothpaste and tooth brushes, deodorant, razors, face clothes and hand towels.

People are asked to drop off the donations at the Chisholm Center from 2 to 7 p.m. today.
