A new, flexible rental space suitable for meetings, classes and seminars, small parties and wedding receptions is now open in a historic wood-frame building at 302 S. Woodland Blvd. in DeLand.

Time & Place {a meeting space}, is owned by Michelle Hollitz and her husband, Ryan Hollitz. The couple had a soft opening of the business in early January, and hosted a grand opening and ribbon-cutting with the DeLand Area Chamber of Commerce & Orange City Alliance Jan. 16.

Their goal is to meet a need in the community.

“A tenant moved out, and we knew some professionals were looking for places where they could meet with clients and stuff,” said Michelle Hollitz. “For instance, my husband, who works in IT remotely, often needs a space for client meetings.”

Hollitz is a former instructor at Seminole State College who now is the full-time property manager and executive director of Time & Place.

The ground floor features a large central meeting room, surrounded by smaller classroom-like spaces. Hollitz said clients can rent individual rooms or the entire floor, depending on their needs, for one-time events or on a recurring basis. Rates start at $20 an hour for the meeting room, and go up to $200 for a four-hour rental of the entire first floor.

Rental time can be acquired in 10-, 25- and 50-hour blocks; the hours can be used one at a time or as needed by the week or the month. Rentals can be scheduled and paid for through the business’s website, depending on facility availability.

The wood-frame building dates to 1908, when it was built. It has served many uses over the years, first undoubtedly as a private residence and then as a succession of businesses.

For instance, it was the temporary first home of Mainstreet Community Bank of Florida from late 2003 until early 2005, when the bank moved into offices built a block north at 204 S. Woodland Blvd.

Geof Felton operated a construction company at that location for a number of years after Mainstreet Bank moved out.

Most recently, it was the home of DeLand Florist, Michelle Hollitz said.

A private residence occupies the second floor of the main building. Two other businesses — Nancy’s Vintage and Retro boutique, which is open Wednesday through Saturday, and Gordon’s Travel and e-Trade Drop-off Site, which operates Monday through Saturday — are in attached spaces to the rear of the structure.
